One of the most fascinating topics in horror revolves around things
that are already dead, or close to being dead. From ghosts on one
end of the scale, to zombies on the other, things that are dead always seem to be on the list of creepiest!
Whether it’s something with deteriorating flesh trying to pull itself from
the depths of hell, or a phantom spirit lurking within the shadows
directly behind you, the thought of something dead is truly a haunting sensation. It is the one subject that no one likes to think about, yet everyone tries to escape its grasp, and the hurtful truth is that nobody can escape.
Seeing death up close and personal is something we all have to endure, no matter how far you place it out of your thoughts. However, it doesn’t always have to be filled with the usual decay, blood, or gore, even if that is what
makes it more exciting. It can also be something simple, like watching a well dressed person waiting on a street corner for a bus to arrive and take them to work. Just maybe, there was something out of place that was
overlooked that could have let you know that they weren't real at all. Have you ever looked at someone standing
in a hospital and just were not sure whether they were alive or not? Or even worse. What if they had noticed that
you could actually see them? Death is everywhere, even if you have forgotten what to look for.
The truth is that we all like to be in scary situations, even people you would think of as down to earth. We place ourselves there without really thinking twice about it, even people who are “down to earth,” who are seemingly
the farthest from anything horror, like a good scare every now and then. Yet, it is the escalating scale of such
horror that climbs higher and higher that tells us, “That’s enough.”
It is the amount of such terrors that you agree to put yourself through that determines whether or not you are
truly a horror nut, and DEAD THINGS are the most productive, living within our minds…
