When I think about the dark, the strangest things sometimes appear as visions within my mind. The morbid thought of something that may or
may not be out there watching and waiting for an opportunity to emerge from the dark to attack me fills my imagination. Surprisingly without
thinking twice, it causes me to begin smiling.
When I peer out onto a darkened road that bends around corners ultimately disappearing at the edges of a mysterious forest, the solitude and silence I feel seems to give me a weird sense of comfort as I start making things up that could be hiding in the shadows of the dark.
It is the truly dark which allows for things horrific to dwell a mere few inches away from your skin, without you ever realizing that there actually is something there. It can be something that is so close to you that with one lick of its tongue can taste your flesh before you ever have the chance to scream out for help.
Sometimes, its not the things hiding in the shadows of my mind that are filled with the most fright, sometimes its
the ones that are standing on the road directly in front of me that are the most bizarre. Something standing
alone, partially hunched over and crippled in the middle of that same road patently waiting for me to inch closer
to it before it vanishes in a darkened haze can be just as creepy and unnerving if not more so.
The thought of being in the dark for most people involves a feeling of being alone, and it is that same loneliness
that causes you to miss the things you shouldn't. Being alone and in the dark without the luxury of having a source
of light causes you to ignore an ever present danger, but whether you allow the dark to be truly terrifying or not,
well that is entirely up to you…
